LAWRENCE E. LATTIN COLLECTION OF MOTORCYCLES HEADS TO BONHAMS’ LAS VEGAS AUCTION San Francisco On January 10th at Bally’s in Las Vegas, 15 motorcycles from the Lawrence E. Lattin Collection will join an assembly of over 160 other motorcycles of various vintages at Bonhams’ already-famous third annual Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction. Of these 175+ motorcycles, some are extremely rare, some are quite famous, others are tremendously valuable, while many are just plain fun. What stands out most about the motorcycles from the Lattin Collection, however, is the fact that they were owned and cared for by Larry. For those who never had the pleasure of knowing the late Seattle area collector, his daughter, Lauren, sums up the man and his collection quite nicely. My dad was a collector of many things but vintage motorcycles were his most admirable. There’s something to be said about a person that collects for the pure joy of collecting, but for my dad it ran deeper. He truly found fascination in the mechanical as well as the beauty. He told me that the reason he loved to collect (guns, canons, knives, pocket watches, and cars, among other things) was because he genuinely appreciated the craftsmanship that went into every detail of each individual piece that combined to make the whole. In my opinion it wasn’t just the details that my dad appreciated. He truly had a gift of being able to glance at a complex object and understand it perfectly, even to the point that he would know how to fix a problem without getting his hands dirty. My father was many things that make me incredibly proud to be his daughter but his ability to collect such unique items is something that will always be a reminder of what a brilliant and creative mind he had. I know that whoever gets the pleasure of purchasing my father’s collection will not only enjoy such a unique pieces, but they will also be getting a spectacular part of Lawrence Eugene Lattin that brought him a lifetime of happiness. Included in the Lattin Collection are motorcycles representing the following marques: AJS, Ariel, BSA, Douglas, Harley-Davidson, Indian, Norton and Triumph. These pedigree motorcycles will be offered at the Bonhams Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction on Thursday, January 10th at Bally’s Hotel & Casino on The Strip in Las Vegas.
