Local young gun Michael Beck was the star of the fourth round of the WERA National Challenge series at Willow Springs International Raceway Sunday. Beck, 16, used his Yamaha YZF-R1 to win the Formula 1 and A Superstock races, both close wins over Racer’s Edge’s Dale Kieffer, and also finished second to Arclight Suzuki’s Chris Siglin in the C Superstock event on his Yamaha YZF-R6. Vesrah Suzuki’s Tray Batey was the other big winner, taking victory in B Superstock as well as third in Formula 1 on his Suzuki GSX-R750, and also winning the Heavyweight Twins race on his Suzuki SV1000. Siglin finished runner-up to Batey in the B Superstock race despite stepping up and running his GSX-R600 against a field of mostly 750cc machines. Young gun Josh Herrin took a close win over fellow young gun Nicky Moore in the C Superbike event, while Moore was able to edge out Herrin for third in the C Superstock race. Both were on Yamaha YZF-R6s. Yet another young gun, Tommy Aquino, used his Honda RS125 to win the Formula 2 and 125cc GP races, while in the Lightweight ranks Suzuki SV650-mounted riders Chris Perrish and Josh Galster took the Supersport and Superbike wins respectively.
