The 2008 Australian Historic Road Race Championship is well underway, with Friday and Saturday action completed at Barbagallo Raceway in Wanneroo, Western Australia. More than 150 riders have entered to take part in the Championship, and they were greeted with sunny conditions when they turned up to the track to set their bikes up on Saturday morning. The morning warm-up sessions and races went ahead as planned, with races taking place in multiple non-championship classes, ahead of a break around lunch-time. It was after lunch where the event saw some drama the heavens opening up during the Period 4 and 5 Sidecars race with heavy rain falling for 20 minutes and causing some minor delays. As a result of the initial delay, the afternoon scheduled races were all shortened by one lap, and rain fell intermittently throughout the early stages of the afternoon session. The wet conditions prompted many of the competitors to withdraw from their races choosing instead to prepare themselves for racing on Sunday. As the afternoon wore on, the conditions eased up and some great racing took place however the forecast suggests we are likely to see some more wet weather racing on the final day of the event.
