2014 ASRA Team Challenge Championship Starts the Road America Cyclefest

Elkhart Lake, WI – The AMA sanctioned ASRA Team Challenge Series presented by Michelin Tire competitors make their annual trek to Elkhart Lake’s Road America Cyclefest on July 5-6 and you’re invited! There is no finer way to start the second half of the 2014 season than at one of America’s finest tracks watching one of the best AMA sanctioned road race series compete on the historic 4 mile Road America course.

The ASRA Team Challenge action kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with the 39-lap final and all eyes will be on the defending Team Challenge Overall Champion and current point leader Grease Monkey Racing from Virginia. GMR is looking to see if they can make it 6 championships in a row and hold on to a slim lead in the championship going into the Road America event. Nipping at GMR’s heels is the 2006 Overall National Champions, Martinez Racing Team from Slinger WI, just 2 points behind them in the standings with 5 rounds to go and as we have seen in the past, anything can happen. Looking to steal the top teams thunder is the Farrell Performance Team making their 2014 debut. This potent team from Oshkosh, WI is always a threat and they will do whatever it takes to win on their home track.

In the Team Challenge GTU class, it will be a four team scramble in hopes of breaking clear in the championship chase. Currently RnR Repsol holds the lead with 75 points, followed by Pure Action Sports at 68 points and the TOBC 600 squad tied with Triple Threat Racing in third with 65 points. Looking to uphold the Mid-West honor at their favorite track will be the Pool Boy Racing team from White Lake MI. PBR was the Overall and GTU winner of the Blackhawk Farms race on May 17th and should be considered a threat to repeat at Road America.

While GTL uses the smallest displacement motorcycles, the competition is just a fierce as any other class in the Team Challenge. The top two teams, BP Performance from Wisconsin and Mavros & Boy Racing from Florida, are tied at 91 points apiece and both teams are scheduled to appear at Road America. The third place team, Faceplant/Ducati Depot from Florida, is just 9 points behind and bringing reinforcements to try to gain the top spot for the class. Also joining the fray is G-Baby Racing, the 2013 GTL National Champion, insuring this will be a battle to the checkered flag.

Gates open at 7:00 a.m. Saturday July 5th for Round 5 of the AMA sanctioned ASRA Team Challenge Series Presented by Michelin Tire. Weekend credentials to the Road America Cyclefest start at $25 with afternoon passes just $10 per day. Come see the ASRA Team Challenge action on Saturday followed by Championship Cup Series sprints and then stick around for the ASRA, USGPRU and Championship Cup Series sprints at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
