Army Of Darkness Wins Roebling Road WERA National Endurance Race
The Army of Darkness (AOD) began its National Endurance Championship title defense with a three-lap victory margin in a 4-hour race run under the scorching Georgia sun at Roebling Road Raceway.
AOD’s long-suffering, Dunlop-shod, purpose-built endurance bike was piloted by Gabriel de Silva and longtime WERA endurance racer (and past national champion) Chuck Ivey.
“It was great to be under the tent with AOD. Racing against AOD, it always seemed inevitable that they would win the race but being under the tent I get to see how much work and how many details the team is constantly running down to turn in that relentless performance,” Chuck shared .
Gabriel de Silva said, “This was only my second real endurance race and the AOD crew made it easy because they could get us so much of a lead with Melissa and Tim changing the rear tire so fast. I definitely want to train more, though, because those last 15 minutes of the hour-long stint are tough!”
AOD managed to cheat defeat on no less than four occasions over the weekend, having to chase down two oil leaks; a dead crank position sensor; a sealant strip-induced off-track excursion; and even a low side in the dirt with 10 minutes to go.
