PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association welcomes AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Scott Summers as co-grand marshal of the 2019 Honda AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days presented by Avon Tyres on July 5-7 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

Summers shares the grand marshal honors with AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Bubba Shobert. Both are longtime Honda riders and among the winningest motorcycle racers of all time.

“Having Scott Summers and Bubba Shobert on hand to help celebrate American Honda Motor Co.’s 60th anniversary will be an amazing experience,” said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. “Their achievements are closely associated with the Honda brand, and their accomplishments are legendary.”

Summers raced Honda XR600Rs to nine AMA national off-road racing championships. He won the 1990, 1991 and 1992 Grand National Cross Country championships. He reclaimed the AMA GNCC national No. 1 plate in 1996 and successfully defended that title the following year.

Summers also won four AMA Hare Scrambles National Championships (1990, 1991, 1993 and 1995) and took three gold medals as part of the U.S. team at the International Six Days Enduro. He was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2014.

“It’s hard to think of a more deserving rider than Scott Summers to serve as AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days’ co-grand marshal,” said Chris Cox, American Honda’s Manager of Experiential Marketing/Public Relations. “Anyone who followed ’90s-era GNCC and hare scrambles racing remembers his ability to go fast in the woods on a big XR600R, and I’m sure fans at Mid-Ohio will enjoy catching up with an off-road legend.”

Honda AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days presented by Avon Tyres will not only celebrate the 50th anniversary of Honda’s legendary 1969 CB750, but also the 40th anniversary of the six-cylinder CBX and the 60th anniversary of American Honda Motor Co. Inc.

“I was flattered to have Honda invite me to AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days,” Summers said. “We have some great history together. And I look forward to spending time with everyone involved. Honda puts a lot of thought into every decision, especially when it comes to performance and durability.”

Honda AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days presented by Avon Tyres, welcomes riders and racers of all brands to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. All activity at the event financially supports the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that raises money for the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

The event will include vintage competition in road racing, motocross, hare scrambles and trials at Mid-Ohio and flat track racing at the nearby Ashland County Fairgrounds. Riders in these disciplines are racing for national championships or national championship series points. In addition, the Biltwell Pit Bike Races, the Biltwell Holeshot Challenge and the Biltwell Off-Road Poker Run will also be held.

Vendors from all areas of motorcycling will be at the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days Swap Meet, presented by Federal Motorcycle Transport, selling gear, parts, accessories and tools.

Honda and Harley-Davidson will be offering demo rides.

Motorcycling experts will speak on numerous topics, including motorcycle restoration and travel. Speakers this year include three AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers — Scot Harden, Mary McGee and Peter Starr. And AMA staff members will conduct a panel discussion on important legislation affecting riders.

Tickets are available for purchase online at www.midohio.com/tickets/1/vintage-motorcycle-days… or at the gate during the event. A weekend pass is $60, a single-day admission for Friday or Saturday is $40 and a single-day admission for Sunday is $35. Kids 12 and younger get in free.
