Allerton and Spriggs take Round 4 Superpole spoils NextGen Motorsports Glenn Allerton has taken pole position for Round 4 of the QBE Australian Superbike Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park today. Allerton topped practice and qualifying, before setting a new qualifying record of 1:30.078, a mere .011 of a second ahead of Team Volvo Suzuki rider Robbie Bugden. Allerton was quickest in the first sector of Superpole but Bugden fought back and went quickest in the second sector. With the track temperature starting to drop Allerton set his quickest lap early in the final sector to secure pole position for Saturday’s races. “I was very happy to come away with pole position today and set a new qualifying lap record,” Allerton said. “It was very close between myself and the Suzuki boys today so we can expect some very close racing this weekend. “It is exciting to be on pole at my home track but the job is not finished as we are qualifying again tomorrow and I need to focus on securing a good start position for Sunday’s races,” Allerton concluded. Yamaha rider Callum Spriggs topped today’s Motul Supersport Superpole leaping to the top of the order in the final minute of the session. In his first Superpole session of the season the Queensland rider pipped championship leader Daniel Falzon by .082 of a second. While Spriggs will start Saturday’s Supersport races from pole position he must now turn his attention to tomorrows sessions, which will see him qualify for Sunday’s Round 5 races. “This is amazing, it is my first Superpole session this year so to get pole is really special,” Spriggs said. “The lap times were a lot quicker than I thought they would be. “I need to put today out of my head so I can concentrate on tomorrow’s qualifying for Sunday’s races.” Rounds four and five of the QBE Australian Superbike Championship continue tomorrow at Sydney Mototsport Park with qualifying for Sunday’s Round 5 races.
