Following a remarkable start to their title defence at Brands Hatch last time out, Airwaves Yamaha head to Oulton Park in Cheshire this Bank Holiday weekend for the second round of the British Superbike series determined to secure more valuable championship points. A fourth place finish in race one and a sensational win in race two saw Leon Camier (22) leave his home-race at Brands Hatch second in the Championship standings. Feeling positive about the weekend ahead, Leon is aiming to continue his good start to the season. “Coming away from Brands Hatch with a win and second in the Championship was a great result and so my confidence is definitely high for this round. When we visited the circuit this time last year I scored my first double podium for the team, some similar results this weekend would be fantastic. “Although we might struggle slightly with a lack of power compared to the competition, from what we learnt at the first round I think the Airwaves Yamaha YZF-R1 should handle really well.” With a history of success at the challenging Cheshire circuit, Cumbria’s James Ellison (28) is looking forward to another good performance this weekend. “I love Oulton Park, I’ve had the best results of my career there so I can’t wait to get out on track. I tied up the British Superbike Privateers Championship at Oulton Park is 2004 and then had two second place finishes last season, so I’ve got some good memories of the place and know what it takes to do well. “With it being our first weekend on the new bike, I needed to race quite conservatively at Brands Hatch to make sure I finished both races and bought some championship points home for Airwaves Yamaha. Now we know what the YZF-R1 is capable of, plus the team has worked hard over the past couple of weeks to make improvements to the package, so I’m confident this weekend we can really push and be competitive from the start.” The second round of the British Superbike championship takes place on Monday 4th May.
