Adams, Cleland Win Multiple CMRA Races At Texas World Speedway

Defending number one plate holder Daniel Adams took four and lightning fast Brandon Cleland took three podiums in serious competition during the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s (CMRA) second round of Bridgestone/CMRA Championship sprints this past Sunday, March 20, at Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas.

A second day of temperatures in the mid-50s F and partially cloudy weather with a light breeze turning into 20+mph gusting wind made for slick and challenging conditions on the 2.9-mile full course.

Cleland continued to dominate the grids as he rode his RES-prepped, Pirelli-shod Yamaha YZF-R6 to grab the wins in South Central Race Center – C Superstock Expert, C Superbike Expert, and 212Decals.com – A Superbike Expert. Cleland also took pole position in qualifying for the M4 Exhaust/P1 Racing Formula 1 Expert Race.

James Camacho also had a strong showing Sunday, taking the wins in M4 Exhaust/P1 Racing – Formula 1 Expert, B Superstock Expert, and second in South Central Race Center – C Superstock Expert with his Dunlop-shod Yamaha YZF-R6. Camacho also turned the fastest lap of the weekend with a 1:44.521 on lap 4 of the Formula 1 Expert race.

The M4 Exhaust/P1 Racing – Formula 1 Expert race was shaping up to be a great one, with morning qualifying times in the mid 1:40’s despite the weather. The 23 bike grid lined up, and the battle was brewing between Cleland on the pole, Brandon Young on his Suzuki GSX-R1000 second, and Camacho rounding out the front row.

The starting lights went out, and the grid surged forward. Cleland and Camacho took off with Young in pursuit and Craig Montgomery aboard his Kawasaki ZX-10R on Young’s tail. BMW S1000RR mounted Joseph Caruso dealt with Jeff Wrobel on his Suzuki GSX-R1000, with Bobby Davies jumping into the fray on his Yamaha YZF-R6.

Cleland and Camacho went at it like fighting squirrels, with Camacho turning the fastest lap of the race and weekend on lap 4 in pursuit of Cleland, with Cleland turning a 1:44.869. Suddenly, Cleland’s bike shut down due to a ground wire coming loose. As he dropped back, Camacho seized the lead with Montgomery on his six. Wrobel worked into fourth, and Nick Doolan shot up from 16th on the start into fifth on Yamaha YZF-R6. Camacho stretched his lead out and took the checkers 8.709 seconds ahead of Montgomery in second. Young held onto third, Wrobel took fourth, Doolan grabbed fifth, and Caruso, Davies, Phillips, Pence, and Segura rounded out the top ten. Camacho also won the $100 P1 Racing cash purse for riding the first 600 across the finish line again during the Formula 1 race.

Daniel Adams continued the defense of his number 1 plate with even more competition in the Lightweights this weekend, as the Formula 2, Lightweight Twins, D Superstock, and D Superbike grids grew to over 20 entries each. Adams swept the podium, going four for four on his Suzuki SV650, winning Century Trucks and Vans – Formula 2 Expert, Century Trucks and Vans – D Superbike Expert, D Superstock Expert, and Lightweight Twins Expert, and turning a fantastic fastest lap of 1:50.941 despite the conditions.

Dalton Turner got the Top Novice spot this weekend for his efforts aboard his Yamaha YZ450 Motard, turning an impressive 1:59.833 for a fastest lap and taking second in Texas Motorcycle Academy@H2Rraceway – Motard, second in BearShark Brand Clothing – Formula 3, a second in D Superstock Novice and a fourth in D Superbike Novice running against Suzuki SV650’s and Honda CBR600F3’s.

Daisy DeSimone won the “Jennifer Millsap Get it Girl” $100 award, sponsored by A.G. Horn, for her combined finishes in four races on her Suzuki GSXR-750.
