Racer and Roadracingworld.com Website Editor Melissa Berkoff underwent surgery Tuesday in Falls Church, Virginia to repair botched placement of a screw in her left fibula and tibia.

Berkoff broke her left lower leg in a trials-riding crash while vacationing in Nevada October 12 and had it plated at Northern Nevada Medical Center the same day. In a follow-up visit near Berkoff’s home in Maryland Monday, an orthopedic surgeon discovered that a screw that was supposed to be holding the fibula and tibia together in fact had missed the tibia altogether.

The misplaced screw was replaced Tuesday.
