CMRA RIDERS RACE TO SUCCESS IN AMA GRAND CHAMPIONSHIPS AT MID-OHIO Riders from the CMRA (Central Motorcyle Roadracing Association) garnered awards, filled the podiums and represented the club well at the 2005 AMA Sport Road Race Grand Championships at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, July 18, 19 & 20. A total of 17 CMRA members, up from nine in 2004, raced in a variety of classes against riders from regional organizations across the United States. The designated CMRA three-rider team of Ty Howard, Bryan West and Logan Young (2004 Horizon Award winner) finished second in this year’s AMA Sports Road Race Club Challenge Championship, just behind the WERA National team of Ryan Elleby, Ben Thompson (co-winner of last year’s award as a CMRA rider) and David Weber. New for 2005 was the Top Novice Award, and the CMRA’s own Cory Burleson won the award by dominating the Novice classes, winning every one of the nine classes that he entered. Cory, 24, from Harrison, Arkansas, set a blistering pace, his “closest” win being over two seconds ahead of the second place rider. “I was ecstatic that the CMRA chose me to represent them for the Top Novice Award,” said Burleson. “When we showed up, I had no idea. I knew the competition was going to be stiff. I had no idea that I was going to be able to win this award. The track was real difficult to learn. If you messed up one spot, you messed up three or four corners, but it came along pretty good.” Congratulations to all of the CMRA riders that made it to Mid-Ohio for the 2005 AMA Sport Grand Championships, including Ryan Andrews, Cory Burleson, James Compton, Amanda Cornelius, Jeff Duke, Shea Fouchek, Will Gruy, Ty Howard, Randall Kienast, Philip Lawlis, Tyler McDonald, Heath Small, Brandon Spradling, Ben Thompson, Bryan West, Cathy White and Logan Young.
