A silent auction and rides on the back of a two-seat racebike during a Fastrack Riders Association track day event November 26-27 at California Speedway raised over $5500 for injured racer Vincent Haskovec. The auction, organized by Fastrack Riders Association’s Larry Pointer, included merchandise and services donated by Pirelli, Michelin, Race Tech, California Speedway and Infineon Raceway; memorabilia donated by Roadracingworld.com and Yamaha; and more. It raised approximately $3800. In addition, 26 individuals donated between $25 and $100 for a ride on the back of a Pirelli-slick-shod Suzuki GSX-R1000 racebike fitted with a passenger seat and footpegs and piloted by Roadracingworld.com’s Chris Ulrich. Fastrack Riders Association supplied the leathers, boots, helmets and gloves for the guest riders. Between the auction, the two-seater rides and cash donations, over $5500 was raised to help Haskovec, who suffered paralyzing spinal injuries (and later complications) when he crashed into an unprotected trackside barrier during an AMA Formula Xtreme race at Infineon Raceway in May 2005, pay for his rehab.
