Racer Roberto “Robertino” Pietri has been hospitalized in Caracas, Venezuela with an infection related to recent surgery performed in the United States to cure “compartment syndrome,” the cause of the racer’s problem commonly known as “arm pump.” The 20-year-old Venezuelan is the son of 1980s AMA Superbike and F-1 competitor Roberto Pietri. The younger Pietri rode at two F-USA Nationals and one AMA National during the 2005 season; he won a CCS National Championship during the 2005 Race of Champions weekend at Daytona in October and plans to compete in the entire AMA series this year. It is not known if the infection and related complications will cause Robertino Pietri to miss AMA team tests scheduled for February 7-8 at California Speedway in Fontana, California.
