The United States Classic Racing Association, sponsored in part by the New England Harley Davidson Dealers Association, is pleased to announce the revival of the highly popular 883 road racing class exclusively designed for the American made Harley Davidson 883 XL Sportster. The 883 class, popular with both fans and riders alike in the mid 1990’s, fell victim to tightening race schedules, declining race opportunities, and a cutback in sponsorship monies. For 2006, the 883 Harley Davidson road racing class will be run in conjunction with all USCRA track events and be called American Twins. The 883 American Twins will be run as a championship class at all USCRA road-racing events in 2006. Strict rules for American Twins will limit the modifications allowed to the machines in order to keep the class affordable, fun and most importantly provide close racing for the riders and spectators. The USCRA feels that the 883 Harley Davidson has its roots firmly in the very unique, long and successful history of motorcycle competition enjoyed by Harley Davidson in America. The 883 Harley Davidson is 100% American. From its “v”twin engine design to its thundering trademarked sound, Harley Davidson continues to capture the love and imagination of rider’s worldwide. On the track, the basically stock 883 Harley Davidson, will provide the spectators and riders alike with very close competition, great sounds, and racing excitement reminiscent of a classic racing era prior to the high revving motors of today’s plastic clad superbikes. The 2006 USCRA race season starts with the Vintage Celebration on May 19, 20, 21 at the New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire. A very unique event, the Vintage Celebration presents a program combination of vintage motorcycle, sidecar and sports car racing on the 1.6-mile road course. The second USCRA event for the 883 Harley Davidsons is an exhibition race Sunday June 11 on the streets of downtown Laconia. This 883 event at the start of the world famous Laconia Motorcycle Week will be conducted in conjunction with the third running of the very popular “Streets of Laconia” Vintage Motorcycle Exhibition Races in downtown Laconia. On Monday, June 12, the 883’s will return to NHIS in Loudon, New Hampshire for the very serious “no holds bared” running of the FIM/ NAMU North American Vintage Road Racing Championships. This internationally recognized event attracts the top vintage racers from across the United States and Canada to race for the prestigious crown of FIM / NAMU North American Vintage Champion. Rounding out the schedule for the 883 American Twins in 2006 will be the Granite State Championships on Labor Day Monday, September 3 at NHIS. These New Hampshire State Championship races offer some of the best racing of the season. The riders have had a whole season to dial in their machines and race the competition. Additionally, this event is one of the last opportunities for the riders to get their championship points for the season standings.
