CCS racer Scott Layman has been disqualified from the results of last weekend’s Daytona event for running as an Amateur when he is ranked as an Expert in another organization. According to CCS officials, Layman’s disqualification falls under section 2.2.6 C of the CCS rulebook. According to both CCS and WERA officials, Layman has been ranked as a 2006-season Expert by WERA, based on his 2005 performance. Officials added that Layman was also ranked as a WERA Expert for the 2005 season, but was allowed to remain in the Novice (the equivalent of Amateur in CCS racing) ranks under a one-season petition clause in WERA rules. Layman’s petition to remain a WERA Novice for 2006 was denied because he had already used up his one-time petition, for the 2005 season.
