AMA Pro Racing Road Race Series Manager Ron Barrick is not at the AMA Superbike event at Road America today. He is on his way to Rome, Italy to attend a summit meeting aimed at “harmonizing” Superbike technical rules worldwide. “The meeting is scheduled for Monday,” Barrick told Roadracingworld.com. “We will arrive there Sunday morning and have a little time to recover. We will also be meeting with some of the other federations in advance of going into the main meeting. There’s no formal agenda. The invitation said the discussion would be regarding harmonizing Superbike rules on a worldwide basis.” The meeting was organized by FIM, the International motorcycle sport sanctioning body, and will be held at the headquarters of FGSport Group, the organizers of the Superbike Championship. Attending the meeting will be representatives from several domestic Superbike Championships, including but not limited to: America, Japan, England, Germany and Australia. Also attending the meeting will be the Motorcycle Sport Manufacturers Association, MSMA. According to Barrick, he believes this meeting will be the first of several with a goal of unified worldwide Superbike technical rules for the 2008 season. Asked the last time he missed an AMA Superbike Championship event, Barrick thought for a moment and said, “1994, for a family emergency.” Barrick still attended the Friday of that weekend, however. In his absence, Barrick’s duties will be shared by two men, AMA Pro Racing Director of Timing & Scoring Ken Rogers and Vice-President of AMA Sports Doug Neubauer.
