June 24th marks the arrival of the 6th annual CCS Festival of Speed at Virginia International Raceway and the 4th annual Wegman Benefit Fund Drive in memory of Paul Farrell. As previously announced, A & J Recognition, the CCS/ASRA awards supplier, kick-started the drive by pledging cash prizes and the annual Paul Farrell Memorial Trophy. In response to A&J’s commitment, the American Sportbike Racing Association has pledged $5.00 per entry from the weekend’s ASRA sprints to go to the Wegman Fund. “We recognize all the great things the Wegman Fund has accomplished for injured riders in our sport,” said Kevin Elliott, Director of Operations for the ASRA series. “The Roadracing World Action and the Wegman are the best charities for us to put our efforts behind. One helps protect the riders from injury and the other steps in if they do get injured, you can’t ask for better organizations than that. This weekend we are focusing on the Wegman because that was Paul’s charity.” All donations can be made inside the Registration area, which will be located in the classroom of the North Tower. Items valued at well over $3,000 will be auctioned off in a Silent Auction and drawings for cash and prizes will be held throughout the weekend. “For instance, up for Silent Auction is a set of motorcycle racing photography books “Time To Look Back” (retail value $75).” said organizer Jeanne Muse. “In addition, racer Nate Kern donated a brand new set of Hooters Suzuki leathers by Corsa worth approximately $2,000.” Anyone wishing to add items to the Silent Auction should bring them to the classroom before noon on Saturday.
