The FIM Superbike World Championship and the AMA Superbike Championship will use different configurations of Miller Motorsports Park (MMP) during their joint event there in 2008. The World Superbikes will use the 3.048-mile Outer Track, which has been used by the AMA since it has been racing there. All of the classes of the AMA Superbike Championship series will now use the 4.5-mile Main Track, which AMA riders have not tried yet. There are two reasons for taking this approach, according to MMP Media Manager John Gardner. “First, so there will be no direct comparisons between World Superbike and AMA Superbike,” lap times, said Gardner. “And secondly, World Superbike requires a clean track as far as signage goes. So they will put their sponsor signage up on the Outer Course, and the AMA can out its sponsor signage up on the inner portion of the 4.5-mile course. It works out pretty well.” Gardner did not know how the logistics of the paddock will work, however. At the last two AMA events, only the top teams were allowed to work out of MMP’s Grand Prix garages along hot pit lane. The smaller teams and privateers had to work out of the Day Garages or the open paddock, hauling their pit equipment to and from a small area on pit lane beside the Grand Prix garages. Speculation is World Superbike teams will work out of the Grand Prix garages, while AMA Superbike teams will share space along the West Course’s hot pit lane, which does not have garages. The AMA Supermoto Championship, which has run in conjunction with the first two AMA Superbike events at MMP, will not run during the combined World Superbike/AMA Superbike weekend. MMP officials are currently looking at moving that event to either the WERA/AMA National event (which has been run the weekend prior to the AMA Superbike event the last two years) or to the Bonneville Vintage GP AHRMA event. Tickets for the June 1, 2008 World Superbike/AMA Superbike event are already being sold at ~http://www.millermotorsportspark.com/sbk08/ticketOptions.html~ .
