Honda’s official preview of this weekend’s World Superbike races at Monza, near Milan, Italy, announced that AMA Formula Xtreme Championship point leader Jake Zemke would be filling in for HANNspree Althea Honda’s Roberto Rolfo, who broke his left collarbone recently in a mountain biking accident. But Zemke will not be able to take advantage of the opportunity, according to his manager Bob Moore. “Jake is deeply saddened. He really wanted to make this happen, but he basically needed another 24-hour notice to do it,” Moore told Roadracingworld.com Wednesday morning. “He’s dedicated and wants to win both of the Championships here in America, Formula Xtreme and Supersport. Given the fact that he [would have] missed today and tomorrow’s testing at Miller [Motorsports Park], which is basically a new track. They’re on a completely new track [4.5-mile course this year]. He just can’t give that up. If it was an off weekend or they weren’t testing he would be there in a second, but there’s no way that he could give his team 100% and go over there and make it in time. So we passed.” If Zemke had decided to race at Monza, he would have needed to leave directly from Salt Lake City, Utah Wednesday afternoon in order to arrive in Italy Friday morning. Even then, he may or may not have arrived at the track in time for the first World Superbike practice session. According to Moore, Zemke gave serious considering to making the trip, but rain affecting the first day of a two-day AMA team test on the 4.5-mile course at Miller Motorsports Park today led Zemke to decide to stay for the second day of the important test, when the weather should be better.
