A Preview Of The August 17 MOTO-ST Race At Heartland Park

TOPEKA, KS. (August 4, 2008)- Three American Motorcycle Association (AMA) Motorcycle Hall of Fame inductees are going to be a Heartland Park Topeka to race in the Level 5 Heartland 500 featuring the SunTrust MOTO-ST Endurance Racing Series on Sunday, August 17. Jay Springsteen, Gary Nixon, and Jimmy Filice make up the team Pair-a-Nines. The team is managed by Nixon, with Springsteen and Filice as the team’s two top riders. Springsteen is a three-time AMA Grand National Champion and has over 40 National Championship flat track race. Springsteen was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2003. Nixon, who was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998, is the 1967 and 1968 AMA Grand National Champion. Forty years after his first Grand National Championship win, Nixon is still racing strong in a different format. Three-time AMA 250cc Grand Prix Road-Race National Champion and winner of 29 AMA Nationals Filice is a 2000 Motorcycle Hall of Fame inductee. Former Superbike Champion Doug Polen and Supermoto Champion Benny Carlson will also be a part of the weekend’s race. All of these riders have made a huge impact in the world of motorcycle racing and HPT is honored to them race on our track. An autograph session with Springsteen, Nixon, Filice and many more MOTO-ST riders will take place on Sunday, August 17 at 1 p.m. The hour-long autograph session will give fans the opportunity to meet their favorite riders up-close and provide them an opportunity to interact with the riders. The Level 5 Heartland 500 features the SunTrust MOTO-ST Endurance Racing Series. Racing starts on Sunday, August 17 with qualifying starting at 8:45 a.m. and with the 500K feature race starting at 4 p.m. Tickets to the event are only $15 dollars for a day packed with world-class motorcycle racing. Heartland Park Topeka, a multi-purpose racing facility located in Topeka, Kan. annually hosts NHRA POWERade drag racing, the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), World of Outlaws (WoO) and many other pro and amateur drag racing, road racing and dirt racing events throughout the race season.
