(August 29, 2008) — When Round 5 of the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series takes the Green Flag, August 29-30 on the Thunderbolt Raceway course at New Jersey Motorsports Park, one New Jersey based team will be looking to score a Podium finish. Eager to race for the first time on their new hometown track, Grease Monkey Racing teammates Eric Helmbach (Clifon, N.J.), Eric Wilson (Flanders, N.J.) and Alex Shaw (Hackettstown, N.J.) are ready to go for the glory. “We are definitely excited,” says team owner Helmbach, who has been involved in racing since 1992. “In fact, this race is all we’ve been talking about for the past few weeks. It is the first time that all our friends and family will be on hand to see us run and that makes it extremely special. There is nothing quite like having your own cheering section. It gives you that extra push to really want to shine. The track held a Promoter Day last week and we came out and rode the course on our Suzuki SV650. It is a fun track and the racing should be good.” “I like the track,” adds Shaw, the youngest member of the team, who’s racing background is in motocross. “It takes some getting used to and is both technical and physically demanding. I like the challenge of learning new tracks and that’s part of what makes this series fun.” Running in the highly contested Sport Twins class, Grease Monkey Racing has been involved with the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series since its inception in 2006. “We ran the first 8 Hours at Daytona and loved it,” continues Helmbach. “From the first race we were completely hooked. We ran last year with Team Ducati New York in the BMW GrandSport Twins Class and ended the season in fifth. This year we have our own ST team. Our background is pretty much sprint racing and this is a completely different ball game. It is a total blast. And, not only is it a great series, but all the people, from the officials to the racers are awesome and the atmosphere is really neat.” “This type of team racing is certainly interesting,” adds Wilson. “As Eric said, it is very different from sprint racing. In sprints you just put your head down and go for it. This type of team racing requires a whole different approach. You have to pay attention to details and strategy is all important. In addition, it is much more physically demanding. We are having a good time with it.” “Having Shaw on our team is a real boost,” adds Helmbach. “He is my business partner’s son and is just 20 years old. His energy and enthusiasm is a big up for all of us. He is lots of fun to have around. In short we are all pretty much a big family and this series really hits the bill for us.” The SunTrust MOTO-ST Series is organized and sanctioned by Professional Motorsports Productions (PMP) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and the Grand American Road Racing Association (Grand-Am), based in Daytona Beach, Fla., provides the series with administrative and commercial support.
