FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: USGPRU’s Scott Smallwood’s return to motorcycle roadracing looking bleak… It has been a really, really disheartening week as I learned that my condition has not become better, actually it has become worse and quite unstable. August 4th, I learned that @ the time of the crash, my MRI was unledgeable due to the amount of trauma @ the vertebrae fracture. In turn, the surgeon was unable to note that the ligaments holding my C5 & C6 (vertebrae) were severed in the accident. Bluntly, nothing is holding my spinal column in line @ the moment but a neck brace. Surgery is needed @ once and has been slated. The surgeon had no positive response to my eagerness to return to competitive roadracing. As it was explained to me, another hit or blow to the area could and most likely would result in paralysis and or death. I would like to thank ALL and I mean ALL of my friends, family & sponsors (Craig @Redline Powersports, Aron @ Rev’It, Jeff @ Cameron Photo, Trish & John @ Basi Italia, Frank @ Corner 2 Racing, Motul, Dos Wankers @ Doghouse) the stout and continued support. Life is very short and I may be a very lucky individual to be alive. Live big, love big, brake very late. Hope to see you all @ the races very soon. Scott G. Smallwood
