Airwaves Yamaha will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the British Superbike standings this weekend when the series visits Snetterton in Norfolk for Round 5 of the Championship. With a third of the season complete, riders Leon Camier and James Ellison have won 7 out of the 8 races held. Leon currently sits at the top of the standings on 167 points, with James in 2nd on 129 points. The team’s early success has helped Yamaha to a 44 point lead in the Manufacturers Championship. On the race weekend ahead Leon commented, “I’m looking forward to getting back on a race bike as Thruxton seems like a long time ago. I won my first British Superbike race at Snetterton so I’ve got some great memories of the circuit. It would be fantastic if we could get on the top step of the podium again, but I think we’re going to be in for some tough competition. The Honda’s are looking fast, in particular Josh Brookes who finished on the podium last time out. My teammate James is also riding really well so it should be an exciting weekend. Snetterton is one of the fastest circuits on the calendar but with the new engine the Airwaves Yamaha should perform well.” Like Leon, James is eager to get back on a race bike saying, “I can’t wait to get started. I’ve been training really hard since Thruxton in preparation. After a couple of second place finishes, I really want to kick it up a gear and climb on the top step of the podium. This weekend is the start of an exciting few weeks for Airwaves Yamaha. We go straight from Snetterton to Donington Park for the World Superbike round, before going to Knockhill. Training in-between rounds will be quite limited, but I’d much rather be racing every weekend than having time off.” Round 5 of the British Superbike Championship takes place on Sunday 21st June.
