2 1/2 Day Schedule vs. 3 Day Schedule As was the case concerning our interest in your assessments regarding continuing or eliminating rolling-restarts (your responses were prompt and most helpful), periodically AMA Pro Racing will reach out to its constituents on matters of certain rule and/or procedural changes which are being analyzed. In that connection, AMA Pro Racing is soliciting opinions on the weekend schedule as we move into the 2010 competition season. The original thought was to try to reduce costs for our participants by staging teams on Thursday evening and teams would load in and set up early Friday morning. We would then start on track activities Friday at 12:00pm. We have been contacted by some teams and riders indicating their concerns with this proposed schedule. Some feel that the paddock set up, pit wall set up and bike preparation would be compromised because of the reduced set up time. Some also feel that the allocated set up time on Friday morning would not be adequate for obtaining fuel and tires. Also, track owners and promoters have voiced their concerns about losing a ½ day of track activity on Friday, therefore forcing them to sell 2 ½ day ticket packages instead of the 3 day tickets they’ve sold in the past. Cost must also be considered. Is the money, if any, to be saved in hotels, food and rental car costs, by coming into the track later, a reality when we consider the logistics of coast to coast travel, for example? Taking the foregoing into account, please indicate your preference for the weekend schedule: 1. Staging only on Thursday evening. Friday early morning set up and bikes will go on track at 12:00pm. 2. Move in Thursday afternoon. Use Thursday afternoon and evening for set up and have race activities commence Friday morning, as they have in the past.
