When Brad Talbott heard about the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s first Lap of Champions fundraiser at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, he was thrilled. He bought a ticket, took a lap, and learned how his ride helped kids with brain tumors. Two weeks later, the cause hit close to home. “My sister-in-law called to tell me their youngest son had a brain tumor,” Talbott said. “He got great treatment, and still gets wonderful help because of the work and funding this organization provides.” Now Talbott, owner of the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort on the North Carolina/Tennessee line, is using his business to give back to the PBTF. Deals Gap sits at the south end of the infamous “Dragon,” named for its 318 turns in 11 miles of scenic U.S. 129. This stretch of road is nothing compared to the route Talbott’s nephew had to navigate with his brain tumor, however. That battle inspired Talbott to create the “Dragon Slayer Sweepstakes” to benefit the PBTF. The pearl white bike features kids’ artwork, some of which was created by Ride for Kids® “stars.” Because the Lap of Champions is open to only 300 motorcycles, the sweepstakes winner will be competing with no more than 299 participants for the giveaway bike.
