FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: It is with a heavy heart that I tell you our friend and fellow racer David Luck (#68), of Albuquerque, New Mexico, died Saturday June 12th in a rafting accident in Colorado. As most of you know David missed the first two races at SMRI to save money for his upcoming wedding in Belize. David leaves behind his new wife Gina, brother, three sisters, his father and more friends than I can count. Dave was the reason many of us started to race or come to track days with SMRI (and MRA in Colorado and ASMA in New Mexico) and I know many of you consider him a good friend. Dave also competed in local trials bike competitions with NMTA (New Mexico Trials Association) and raced with the New Mexico Desert Racing Championship Series (NMDRC) and the Hare scramble series with WEBE Racing, and was a strong advocate for keeping trails open to motorcycles on public lands. It will be difficult to do many things now without thinking of David he was the ringleader for fun and always the first person to call and wake you up when there was new snow for skiing, new rain to make the sand ‘cherry’ for dirtbiking or just to hang out at a music festival, it was impossible to say no to him because his enthusiasm and infectious humor. David was a good racer, a better sportsman, and the best friend you could ask for. RIP David, you will be sorely missed. Diane Spengler SMRI #909 Los Alamos, New Mexico
