Australian Superbike Champion Josh Waters crashed a Rockstar Makita Suzuki GSX-R1000 between high-speed Turns 8 and 9 while testing at Willow Springs International Raceway today and was airlifted at about 11:20 a.m. PDT to Antelope Valley Hospital. According to reports from the racetrack, Waters suffered a concussion and a soft-tissue neck injury and was combative as medics worked to load him into the helicopter. At post time he was scheduled to undergo an MRI. Normal procedure in closed head injuries at the Rosamond, California racetrack is to transport the involved rider by helicopter, as a precaution. Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Tommy Hayden was also present at the test. Contrary to Internet rumors, Hayden did not crash. Waters is scheduled to ride in place of Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s injured Blake Young in AMA Pro Superbike events at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course July 16-18 and at Laguna Seca July 23-25. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
