FIRST PERSON/OPINION Via e-mail: My favorite Road Atlanta memory is from the 2005 AMA Pro round. Vincent Haskovec’s first trip back to the track after his injury in May 2005 as well as my first trip after my injury in February 2005. Mike Barnes introduced me to Vincent and we sat there and talked about our injuries and life. I think we both came away from that weekend in a better mindset. Plus, it was great to be back at the track and watching friends again. Steve Servis Largo, Florida FIRST PERSON/OPINION Via e-mail: Here’s a picture of John Hopkins from the last AMA Pro Superbike race held at Road Atlanta, in 2010. I later was able to speak with John about racing abroad and here in America. He enjoyed talking about his racing experiences and was happy his recognition here in the U.S. is still apparent. Lawrence Klein Lawrence Klein Photography.com Marietta, Georgia FIRST PERSON/OPINION Via e-mail: Road Atlanta memories. Geez, I have a few! Nicky Hayden winning the 600 Supersport race, then chunking his gloves, helmet, and boots onto the banks that were covered with fans. Duhamel and Zemke (epic). Mladin’s rear tire explosion (I was in 10A when that happened), the old school Gravity Cavity (I rode that course), old Turn 12 (watching Yates through 12 was simply amazing), Gobert on the Ducati. Rich Oliver winning by 50 seconds on the TZ. Camping out at Turn 5, and raising hell all night only to watch every single lap the next day. My highside in Turn 7 (I learned throttle control that day). I’ve been to Road A so many times I cant remember the years all this and many more memories happened, but I know I was there, and I love the red clay joint! Eric Douglass Lawrenceville, Georgia
