Joey Pascarella, the winner of the Daytona 200 AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race, is entered in Round Two of the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Championship, April 20-22 at Road Atlanta. The official name of the entry is Jon Block Group’s Team Rotobox/Nexx, but the deal is far from done, according to Team Rotobox/Nexx owner/rider Luke Lucky Huff. “We don’t have anything newsworthy yet,” Huff told Roadracingworld.com in a telephone interview late Thursday. “The only thing is if you check out the AMA website he is listed as entered for the race, but at this moment he may be racing on the team with us, or he may be separate or he may not be there. “We are trying [to work out a deal], but we don’t have anything concrete yet. I have a whole press release written up and ready to go, but there are other factors involved and other people that have an interest in this working or not.” Asked what obstacles the deal faced, Huff said, “Joey does have his own manager over in Italy, so I don’t have all the information that he has. But from what I understand he [Joey] has a couple of different options, and each option includes or excludes various people and brands from financing his effort to go racing. So it’s a sort of collaboration of what Joey thinks is best and what his manager thinks is best, and they have relationships that they’ve built over the years that I’m not aware of. So they are sort of weighing all of those things in and just seeing what happens.” Huff said he has known Pascarella for some time and had talked to him during the winter about racing the full AMA season together in 2012. That deal didn’t come together prior to Daytona, where Pascarella won the season-opening 200-mile race on a Project 1 Atlanta Yamaha carrying March of Dimes logos. When Project 1 Atlanta team owner Perry Meneciuc decided the team could not afford to continue after Daytona, Pascarella was back on the open market. Huff is now hoping his team can help save the 19-year-old Californian’s season. “The ultimate goal is definitely for the whole season,” said Huff. “With the time restrictions that we have we’re kind of forced into let’s just get past Road Atlanta and then we’ll look towards the rest of the season, but we’re definitely more excited about the idea of the whole season. We’re just kind of limited with time on getting everything contracted for a full season, so we’re just looking at making sure he can get to Road Atlanta, be on a bike that’s competitive, that will allow him to be on the podium or get another win and see where we go from there.” At post time, Pascarella had not returned cell-phone messages from Roadracingworld.com, requesting comment.
