Jen Lada, a sport anchor/reporter with Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s FOX6 television station, got an intense experience Thursday at Road America. Lada went for a two-lap, 160-plus-mph ride around the high-speed 4.05-mile road course with AMA Pro Superbike racer Chris Ulrich on his GEICO Suzuki GSX-R1000 two-seat Superbike, and the bicycle racer and tri-athlete came away with a greater appreciation for motorcycle road racing. “That was intense!” said Lada. “That was kind of overwhelming for me. I wasn’t anticipating feeling so vulnerable. I felt very vulnerable. That’s not an indictment of Chris as a driver at all. It’s just scary to be on the back and going that speed, just because there’s so much acceleration and braking from that speed. “And to think that Chris and 30 or 40 other guys are all out there together going that speed and racing for the same piece of the track is just amazing. Wow!” Lada then immediately used her greater appreciation of motorcycle road racing during an impromptu interview with AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Championship leader Martin Cardenas. Lada did several “tweets” during her visit to Road America and said she planned to report on her experience during her newscast at 9:00 p.m. Central Time Thursday. Ulrich and his team have offered rides on two-seat racebikes to local reporters to help promote AMA Pro National Guard Superbike events and motorcycle road racing in general for over 10 years, and Ulrich has given over 500 two-seat racebike rides since 2003. Ulrich also gives rides on his two-seat racebike to the general public to raise funds for the Roadracing World Action Fund (http://actionfund.roadracingworld.com/), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization which advocates and promotes the use of soft barriers to help prevent rider injuries at racetracks.
