WMRRA Title Chase Hits High Gear This Weekend Pacific Raceways, Kent, Washington August 10, 2012 The Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association will hold Round 6 of its 2012 season this weekend at historic Pacific Raceways, and with three rounds to go the chase for the coveted #1 plate has narrowed to one point between veteran racer Mark DeGross and 14-year-old challenger John Gessner. WMRRA’s 2011 overall champion Eli Edwards, on injured reserve, is close behind in the third position with Ted Hawkins and Ryan “Chromie” Sutton rounding out the top 5 positions and looking for a chance to capitalize on any mistake by the leaders in the last 3 races of the series. “It’s really an honor to be up with Mark in the points,” said Gessner. “He has a lot of experience and knowledge, and I’m looking forward to racing against him next year. My team has done a great job of keeping the bikes running good this year, and the competition has pushed me to get faster at every race. It’s been a really fun year, and I’m looking forward to the last couple of races.” If Gessner does succeed in winning the club’s #1 plate this year, he will be the youngest racer in the club’s 39-year history to accomplish the feat, racing a Honda RS125 this year. DeGross, currently dominating the Open Supersport, Open Superbike and Formula Ultra class championships, is looking for his first WMRRA #1 plate against strong competition from several of the club’s best racers. The Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association was formed in 1974 to organize and promote the sport of motorcycle road racing in Washington State. WMRRA Currently races at two tracks in the state, Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington, and the newly constructed The Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, Washington.
