World Superbike Champion set to launch national cycling event for the Scenic Rim Triple World Superbike Champion and avid cyclist Troy Bayliss will next week launch a new national cycling event expected to attract both the sport’s elite and the everyday enthusiast in a challenging yet breathtaking climb concluding at the iconic O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat, Canungra, within the Scenic Rim. The Allenview Turf Troy Bayliss Invitational will see professional riders push the limits over a 128km course beginning in Canungra and heading west before winding its way back up the 36km Lamington National Park Road. The ride will feature over 1500m of climbing including the taxing 900m climb to the finish line at O’Reilly’s. A 36km mass participation ride, the O’Reilly’s Scenic Rim Grand Fondo, will be more suited for the everyday enthusiast who is chasing a new and exciting cycling challenge. During his long and successful career, Gold Coast resident Bayliss used cycling as his primary form of training, and after retirement from racing in 2008, he has pursued a more active involvement in the sport. On Tuesday, Bayliss will be joined by friend and fellow cycling enthusiast, Gold Coast Titans legend Matt Rogers, to launch the event at the O’Reilly’s Lost World Spa & Conference Centre. The occasion will also be used to name the event’s official charity.
