Motorcyclists top $343,000 to help cure kids Ride for Kids spanned across the United States on May 5, with events in Albuquerque, Los Angeles and the North Carolina Triangle area. Riders gathered to raise more than $343,000 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, with more funds coming in over the next 30 days. The Albuquerque Ride for Kids featured cool, dry weather, while rain clouds moved in during the Los Angeles and North Carolina rides. A total of 20 young brain tumor survivors, along with their families, were on hand for the three rides. Making life better for these Ride for Kids Stars is the reason motorcyclists across the country ride for the PBTF, which funds medical research and family support programs to help eliminate the challenges of childhood brain tumors. “[The children] have been through a lot and they’ve suffered a lot,” said Dr. Sridharan Gururangan at the N.C. Triangle ride. “We are finding cures every day, but we couldn’t do it without the money [Ride for Kids] raises.” The Albuquerque, Los Angeles and N.C. Triangle events are still collecting donations online at www.rideforkids.org. Fundraisers will receive incentive credit through June 5. About Ride for Kids Ride for Kids is now in its 30th year of raising awareness and funds for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. These fun-filled, family-friendly motorcycle rides take place in more than 40 cities across the country. More than 28,000 people in the United States are living with the diagnosis of a childhood brain tumor, and 11 more cases are identified each day. Motorcyclists have helped the PBTF become the world’s largest non-governmental source of funding for childhood brain tumor research. Our programs also include free educational information about brain tumors, Internet conferences and college scholarships. American Honda is the presenting sponsor of Ride for Kids. Other supporters include GEICO, Bell Helmets and Cycle World magazine. Register online at www.rideforkids.org or call 800-253-6530 to learn more.
