UtahSBA to race Miller’s Perimeter Course Memorial Day weekend May 22, 2013. Tooele, Utah – Utah Sport Bike Association (UtahSBA) is gearing up for the second round of the ‘Masters of the Mountains Series’ racing on Memorial Day weekend, May 25-26. This will be one of the few occasions where racers will have the opportunity to run Miller Motorsports Park famed Perimeter Course used by AMA Pro Racing, WERA and WorldSBK. “With AMA racing in the Midwest the following weekend, we hope to see some of the fast west coast teams join us in preparation for the AMA round at Miller in August,” said Ryan Brand, UtahSBA President. “We’ll be running the same track configuration [as the AMA Superbike round] this weekend and we have the whole place to ourselves, a full weekend of sprint racing and endurance, along with our Advanced Rider Training school Saturday night.” UtahSBA’s Competition Director Shane White spoke of the upcoming event: “We are extremely excited for this weekend. We have great competition here at Miller with cash prizes on the line. Some of our local riders are doing very well this season. Jerry Hicks is running very well in our Expert Middleweight classes, and Oleg Pianykh dominated the opening round of the Superbike class”. Regarding the recent addition of barriers on the “Witchcraft” and “Faster’ corners,” officials from UtahSBA met with Miller Motorsports Park Director of Track Operations Dan McKeever yesterday (Tuesday) and reported a very positive resolution and clarifications to these barriers. Brand reported Wednesday morning, “These barriers were installed as a temporary measure to support other track activities while the new motocross course was under construction and are being moved to a new permanent location while maintaining the high standards of safety in the Witchcraft Corner.” The UtahSBA also learned that it was never Miller Motorsports Park intention to leave these barriers as a permanent fixture at that corner. Brand continued, “The UtahSBA board is very happy with the changes Miller is doing and they have gone over-and-above in keeping the track safe as they have always been.” The Masters of the Mountains is a motorcycle road racing series organized by the Utah Sport Bike Association, held at Miller Motorsports Park, and sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA). The UtahSBA is a member-based, non-profit organization, committed to furthering motorcycle road racing, rider education and safety.
