John Ulrich has been a journalist since 1972 and a motorcycle road racer since 1973. He founded Roadracing World 23 years ago and owns Team Hammer, Inc., which is racing in its 33rd consecutive season, making it the longest continuously competing professional motorcycle road racing team in the U.S. His first road race win was in 1973 and his most recent win was a few months ago. Along the way Ulrich has seen it all, from history repeating itself in the way AMA Pro Racing has been run to all the factory racing teams dropping out of racing twice and most of them dropping out three times. He has seen grid counts both swell and drop dramatically, and in this radio interview he talks about economic influences, the challenges racers and race teams face, the need to reduce the cost of putting competitive motorcycles on the grid, and the biggest single decision AMA Pro Racing now faces: Defining its overall philosophy and approach to the business of racing.
