PTR HONDA’S Sheridan Morais will miss the next round of the World Supersport Championship in Russia on 21st July as he concentrates on recovering from a shoulder injury he has been carrying since a crash in late April. PTR will run Spanish based American Kenny Noyes in Russia. Morais crashed heavily in Assen during practice and damaged the soft tissue in his shoulder. His doctors suggested a two-month lay-off from racing as the minimum time to recover. The injury remains a significant limiting factor to Sheridan’s ability to ride his PTR Honda, so together with the team it has been decided he will miss Russia to allow a four week break between races to allow the best chance to heal fully. Sheridan said: “I think that this recovery time is vital to our success at the end of the season… If we can challenge towards the end of the season the bumpy start will be forgotten. “Of course I am not happy to be missing the Moscow round but it’s either run around anywhere from fifth to 10th position in pain for the rest of the season or take this time off to recover properly so that we can come back strong and get the results that both myself and my team deserve.” The decision to miss Russia has been fully supported by PTR. Team Manager Simon Buckmaster said: “Sheridan’s injury has been a constant since his crash at Assen and it is clear he is not able to perform to the best of his abilities. He has tried to ride through it but he is not getting the results he or the team want. “This break will allow him to get back to full fitness and then we are targeting podiums for the final races of the year, from Silverstone onwards. We wish him a successful rehabilitation and look forward to seeing what a fully fit Sheridan and PTR can achieve when he returns. “In the meantime we are pleased to announce Kenny Noyes as a stand in rider for the Russian round. He is a rider with pedigree who has shone in Moto2. It will be difficult for him to step into a new team at a new track in a different Championship, but he is a good experienced rider and we will work together for the best possible result.” A full time racer in the Spanish CEV Championship and a pole setter at Moto2 level, Kenny said: “I am just going to do my best and get used to the bike and track ASAP. The bike, track and team are all new to me. I rode at Silverstone last year in WSS on a different bike and got some time on the Pirelli tyres that were good. We will give it our best effort and see where we are after the practice and qualifying sessions; a top 10 finish for sure would be a goal.” The eighth round of the World Supersport Championship takes place Moscow Raceway in Russia on 21st July.
