Motorcycling Australia names IEG as 2014 Superbike Promoter The Board of Motorcycling Australia (MA) this week awarded the promotional rights to the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) to International Entertainment Group. MA President, Stephen Foody said the decision was difficult given the number of substantive applications received. “There will be significant key performance indicators as part of the rights contract and these indicators will be reviewed on a regular basis but at a minimum both prior to and after each round,” he said. MA will have a more direct role in the conduct of the championship and this will involve staff at each round and a technical officer will be appointed in the next few months. An overseeing committee with stakeholder representation will also be established. Technical rules in relation to the Superbike class will be finalised by 31 October 2013 taking into account changes that will occur at world championship level. Mr. Foody went on to say, “it is vitally important we get the Superbike rules right but it is a complicated issue. We have to balance cost effective racing for our participants, whether they are part of a sponsored team or individuals racing primarily out of their own pockets, against a realistic need for parity amongst the various makes. Furthermore rules must accommodate the need for a rigorous technical compliance regime that strives to eliminate rumour and innuendo regarding cheating. Rules need to be fair and equitable whilst providing the opportunities of exciting racing. “We thank all parties for their submissions and interest in the promotion of the ASBK and look forward to working with International Entertainment Group in improving and growing the premier Australian Road Racing Series,” he said.
