The lawsuit filed by former World Champion Kevin Schwantz and his company 3fourTexasMGP, LLC, against Circuit of The Americas and the track’s former President Steve Sexton is set to go to a jury trial February 10, 2014, in Austin, Texas, according to an article appearing in Austin American-Statesman. According to court documents, Schwantz is suing for unspecified damages as a result of “tortious inteference and fraudulent misrepresentations” by COTA and Sexton. Schwantz claims MotoGP rights holder Dorna granted him an exclusive, 10-year deal to promote MotoGP races in Texas and that he was negotiating with COTA and Sexton to bring that race to the new racetrack located near Austin, Texas, Schwantz’s hometown. Then COTA and Sexton side-stepped Schwantz and led Dorna to breach its agreement with him so COTA could deal directly with Dorna and host MotoGP for less money. COTA and Dorna struck a new deal that resulted in the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas being held in April of 2013. Another MotoGP race is scheduled to take place in April of 2014 as part of a five-year deal between COTA and Dorna.
