Wayne Maxwell of Team Motul Honda has had a pretty action packed last 12 months by the looks of things. Now with round two of the Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Series about to kick off this weekend in South Australia, it looks like the action is set to continue!
After taking last years Superbike Championship honors and also competing in his first Endurance World Championship only recently, the 31 year old has began his 2014 racing campaign on a high note.
Despite sustaining what was a fairly serious injury during his 24 hour endurance race debut recently, it has now been confirmed that the star rider will line up for the second round of the Swann Superbike Series at Mallala on May 17-18.
“I’m able to walk around now and I’m feeling pretty normal, so I got out of my last injury fairly lucky really,” he said.
“I have a little bit of pain in my leg when I am on the bike, and also my wrist is injured too so I’m definitely happy that the races are short this weekend.
“Going off the times from the Mallala test, I think we can definitely still win this weekend, I will just have to be a little more conservative and not take risks. If I hit the ground again it’s obviously not going to be ideal.
“I will be very happy if I can get out of this weekend, still within reach of the lead and another top three finish – the same as Wakefield.”
With Maxwell confirming that he will be lining up at the second round of the Swann Superbike Series, he spoke openly about his competitors and how he feels the brand new 2014 series is fairing in the Australian road-racing world.
“Glen (Allerton) and Jamie (Stauffer) are my biggest competition at this stage. Then Josh (Hook) has just come back from injury and he has found speed straight away, which is great, but ideally I would like to see a Honda finish one, two and three,” he said.
“My expectations for myself are that I know that I can win, it’s just making sure that everything else falls into place on the weekend.”
“I think the new series this year has been really good, if everyone gets behind it, it’s going to go from strength to strength.
“Terry and the whole crew have been very receptive to feedback, and it’s only going to get better as we go on.”
