On Tuesday, September 23, CMRA Race Director Walter Walker provided an update to Roadracingworld.com on riders Derek Wagnon and Guillermo “Pops” Gonzalez, who were injured in a horrific chain-reaction crash Sunday, September 21 at MSR-Houston, in Angleton, Texas.

In the interview, Walker mentioned that there were two other riders who were transported away from the track for medical treatment. One rider was transported to a hospital via ambulance, and a second rider was evacuated from the track to a hospital via helicopter.

Walker originally said both riders had been treated and released, but he sent a text message to Roadracingworld.com today correcting himself and stating that both are still hospitalized.

Allen Dye, the rider who was transported to the hospital, via ambulance, “is doing well, having surgery today to fuse a broken vertebra in his low back. (no paralysis). Said he expects to be released by the end of the week,” wrote Walker.

Dye is being treated at University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas.

The rider who was airlifted from the track was Paul Bradley. According to Walker, Bradley suffered badly broken ribs and a collapsed lung, but he is recovering and expected to be released from Memorial Hermann hospital later this week.

Walker also provided a further update on Gonzalez, courtesy of his son Billy Gonzalez. “Pops” Gonzalez was able to open his eyes Tuesday and respond to some of the doctor’s directions, but they are keeping him heavily sedated at Memorial Hermann hospital, relayed Walker.

After having two surgeries on his feet and left leg/ankle over the last few days, Wagnon is resting at Memorial Hermann hospital today, ahead of more surgery on Thursday, according to a post on his father Don Wagnon’s Facebook page.
