Jayson Uribe, a 15-year-old from Angwin, California, is making his debut in the Repsol CEV International Moto2 Championship this weekend at Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana, in Valencia, Spain.

Uribe raced in the Moto3 class of the British MotoStar Championship in 2014, and the youngster took six podium finishes and placed third in the final Championship point standings.

“We were the first Honda in the points, so to us that’s like a win,” Uribe told Roadracingworld.com Friday in the paddock at Valencia. “I learned a lot of racecraft [this season], for sure. And something I always struggled with was qualifying, and I got better and better. I got my first front row at Silverstone, so that was a big achievement for me. But I’ve been learning a lot about riding a bike [overall] and things to do off the bike, like the mental preparation.”

Uribe is riding a Speed Up chassis prepared by AGR Motorsports at Valencia, and he hopes to turn a strong performance this weekend into a full-time ride in the 2015 Repsol CEV Moto2 Championship.

“I think if we can get about top 15 in the race on Sunday then that will lead to some stuff, hopefully this,” said Uribe. “If I’m out of the top 20 I might go try to race a CBR600RR in the [2015] French Supersport Championship to get some more experience. It all depends on the result. I’d really like to stay here. I’d really like to stay on the prototype bike. I’m going to try my best to make sure that happens.”

Uribe has two qualifying sessions Saturday, and his 19-lap race is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. local time Sunday afternoon.
