FIM EWC PORTIMAO MOVED FORWARD TO JUNE 11

Portimão will host FIM EWC second round next June 11. Initially scheduled on June 25, a date change request has been put forward by Portimão circuit to Eurosport Events.

12 hours of Portimão will be held at Autódromo Internacional do Algarve next June 11, from 9.30am to 9.30pm.

Paulo Pinheiro, CEO of Parkalgar, Autódromo Internacional do Algarve:

“This spectacular 12 hours race, happening during a long weekend promises to be a great party. Initially scheduled for the end of the month, we decide to change the date of the race of resistance due the holiday in Portugal of 10th June and the no existence of races this weekend, the FIM Superbike World Championship and MotoGP.

“For many Portuguese a weekend of three days is synonymous of travelling to the Algarve, where in June the sun and the good weather already invite.

“Bring to our circuit this race has a reasonable cost and receive the FIM Endurance World Championship for the first time is very important for us and another milestone in our history.

“The participation of the Parkalgar Racing Team, one that will be a dream team, it’s more a novelty to complement this race. The return of the team, after reaching two titles of vice-champions in FIM World Supersport Championship and 12 victories, will help a lot in promotion.

“Our efforts go through attracting much audience to the Algarve this weekend involving several local and international media in order to make this event a great time for all the motorcycling lovers”.

François Ribeiro, Head for Eurosport Events:

“Eurosport Events heard Portimão’s case to move to June 10-11. We have considered that request and decided to reply positively, despite clash with TT. Not only that new date will offer the event significant programming on Eurosport, but it will facilitate logistics from main EWC teams’ on their way to Suzuka 8 Hours pre-test early July”.
