Babuska, Heckles and McGlade Secure Pole Position for ASRA Races at Summit Point

Summit Point, WV– The AMA sanctioned ASRA Team Sprint Series presented by Pirelli Tire rolled into Summit Point Raceway this weekend and it looks like the most current winners in the series are still the men to beat in their respective classes.

With near perfect weather for his qualifying session, Frank Babuska Jr took his Yamaha R-1 straight to the top of the leaderboard and stayed there through the entire session. Babuska’s 1:11.602 was good enough to not only take the pole position but also broke the existing qualifying record held by Jeff Wood since 2008.

For the Sportbike class, it was Mark Heckles taking control from Carl Soltisz early in the timed session and never looking back as both riders put their Yamaha R-6’s to the test. Heckles posted a 1:14.931 to top the leaderboard for the class, just over 1 second quicker than Soltisz who will start in second place.

The battle for the Thunderbike pole was tight with NJMP winner Brian McGlade pushing just a touch harder than Bart De Francesco and Sam Wiest to claim pole position for the class. All three riders were using Suzuki SV650s and McGlade’s 1:20.322 just nipped Defrancesco’s 1:20.482 in the waning minutes of qualifying. Wiest and Jason Zelibor finished off the all SV front row trailing the pole sitter by less than 0.8 of a second at the end.

For the pole positions in the Amateur classes, it was William Gawler in SuperStock, Noah Howlett in SportBike and Christopher Heiser for ThunderBike.
