A fire on February 5 destroyed the pit lane garage building at the Autodrome Termas de Rio Hondo, in Argentina.

“Unfortunately, the entire pit building was destroyed by the fire that happened in recent hours at the racetrack, that sector also included the press rooms, race control and vip halls,” Hector Farina, Director General of Autodrome Termas de Rio Hondo, said in a statement issued via social media. “Both the museum and the control tower that are at the ends, along with other offices, mini hospital, etc. had no consideration damage.

“The racetrack has total fire insurance, so the issue of economic damage is covered in that sense, but it will surely take a long time to rebuild that important area necessary for national and international competitions.

“Thank God, there was no regretting victims, and we want to thank everyone who helped in this sinister that generated moments of great danger from the wind that was in the air. Many thanks to different staff of firefighters, police personnel, municipal personnel, racetrack workers, etc. who did their best to prevent further damage.

“We will work from now on to do our best to comply with the calendars we have planned, including the November GP bike.”

Autodrome Termas de Rio Hondo was originally scheduled to host the second round of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship April 9-11, but that event along with the April 16-18 MotoGP event at Circuit of The Americas were postponed last month due to uncertainty over the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions. The new race dates have not been announced at post time.
