MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 racer Josh Day suffered a massive highside crash early in Free Practice Three Saturday morning at Road America.

Day was thrown from his Yamalube/Westby Racing Yamaha YZF-R1, landed hard on a paved section of the run-off area and was knocked out. He regained consciousness at the scene but was transported via ambulance to a local hospital in nearby Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Day was later transferred to a trauma center in Green Bay to get a CT scan.

According to Yamalube/Westby Racing Team Manager Chuck Giacchetto, Day has a fractured left wrist and some evidence of a head injury. Day is currently sleeping and will be undergoing more tests later, Giacchetto said.

The Yamalube/Westby Racing team is investigating the cause of the crash, but so far they have found no mechanical problems with Day’s Yamaha.
