Sept. 18, 2016

David “Aussie Dave” Anthony picked up a brand-new Kawasaki ZX-10R from a dealership at the beginning of the weekend, popped on a pipe and unpainted race bodywork, and took his new ride to the big-bore race wins on Sunday in WERA West Presented by Lucas Oil Products competition at Auto Club Speedway.

Aboard the Dunlop-shod, ADR Motorsports-backed machine, Anthony cut through the field from his second-row starting spot, took the lead on the first lap and was never headed. Anthony crossed the line with a 1.662-second margin over second. With temperatures well into triple digits at the facility, Anthony’s best lap of the race was a 1.29.611.

Second place aboard his Coastal Construction-backed, Pirelli-shod Suzuki GSX-R1000 was good enough for Corey Sarros to seal the WERA West Formula One title for 2016. Robert Perez took his BMW S1000RR to third; other than Anthony, Perez and Sarros were the only two riders in the 1:29s in the Formula One race on the blazing hot day.

Fabrice Vilder took fourth, ahead of Dean Mizdal and Justin Simons, with Brian Evans, Scott Tillery, Henrik van Buttlar and Josh Uebersetzig completing the field.

Anthony also won the A Superstock race ahead of Christopher Carron and Simons, while Perez won the A Superbike race ahead of Vilder and Carron.

Edgar Zaragoza won the C Superbike and B Superbike races, suffered a bodywork failure on the grid of the C Superstock race, re-grouped and won the B Superstock race on his Yamaha YZF-R1.
