Circuit of The Americas (COTA), located in Austin, Texas, is apparently closing until further notice, according to a statement posted on the multi-purpose motorsports and entertainment venue’s website and social media feeds.

Recently, MotoGP had to postpone the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas MotoGP race (originally scheduled April 3-5 at COTA) until November 13-15 and IndyCar has cancelled its AutoNation INDYCAR Challenge, originally scheduled April 24-26 at COTA. The changes were caused by the COVID-19 outbreak and temporary government bans on large gatherings.

In addition to professional motorsports events, track days, and schools on its 3.6-mile road course, COTA also hosts large music concerts, festivals, and professional soccer and rugby matches on other parts of its vast property.

An attempt by Roadracingworld.com to reach COTA representatives was unsuccessful as of post time.

Here is the statement that COTA posted on its website:

“COTA is an amphitheater, racetrack, sports stadium, conference center, and place where fans and friends come together to create lasting memories. Without concerts, races and games, we have limited use. Understandably and importantly, public safety takes precedence over celebratory gatherings. It is our greatest hope that our community remains healthy and, when the virus passes, we reunite for many years of treasured moments with friends and family.

“We are heartbroken for our employees (and their families) who spend all year preparing to welcome guests from Austin and all around the globe but now find themselves without work. The joy of creating memorable occasions has been replaced with the disappointing reality of a worldwide crisis. It is indeed a terrible time in the event and hospitality business. Most of all, we hope everyone stays healthy, heeds the caution advised by leaders and experts, and comes back to COTA when good times return.”

In a previous statement, COTA announced it plans to honor tickets already purchased for the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas on its new date November 13-15 or issue refunds, if customers request them.
