German Sandro Cortese has signed with Team Pedercini Racing to ride a Kawasaki ZX-10RR in the 2020 FIM Superbike World Championship.

Cortese is a former FIM Moto3 World Champion and a former FIM Supersport World Champion.

He raced for the GRT Yamaha team in the 2019 FIM Superbike World Championship and placed 12th in the final point standings with 20 top-10 finishes and a best race result of sixth in Race Two at Jerez. However, Cortese’s contract was not renewed by GRT Yamaha at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old tested Barni Racing Team’s Ducati Panigale V4 R in place of injured Leon Camier at Jerez and Portimao in January, but Cortese remained unemployed until now, less than two weeks before the start of the 2020 season.

The 2020 FIM Superbike World Championship begins February 28 – March 1 at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Australia, after a two-day test, February 24-25, at the same venue.
