Classic Superbikes Set For Sonoma Raceway

CSRA To Bring Bikes Of The Past To MotoAmerica Event

COSTA MESA, CA – MotoAmerica, in association with the Classic Superbike Racing Association (CSRA), will take motorcycle road-racing fans back in time at the Cycle Gear Championship of Sonoma, August 10-12, with the newly formed organization, which is dedicated to the preservation of early 1980s Superbike racing, set to hold its first public race in support of the seventh round of the 2018 MotoAmerica Series.

MotoAmerica fans will get the chance to see 1980s Superbikes of an iconic era when they were ridden by the likes of Wayne Rainey, Eddie Lawson. Freddie Spencer and Wes Cooley. The CSRA race will consist of over 20 vintage Superbikes from Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Ducati, BMW and Moto-Guzzi doing battle on Sonoma Raceway’s 2.5-mile road course.

“Of course, I’m a bit biased because that’s when I raced, but I’m really looking forward to seeing the early Superbikes at Sonoma next weekend,” said MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey. “Our younger fans will be surprised at the difference between today’s Superbikes and the ones from the 1980s, and our older fans will have their memories kick-started when they see the bikes again. It should be a lot of fun.”
