Super seven for Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship
TORONTO, Ont. (December 17, 2014) – A new venue for the season opener and a return to western Canada are among the highlights of the seven-round 2015 Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship schedule.
The campaign will open at Calabogie MotorSport Park, near Ottawa on the weekend of June 12-14 and conclude with the traditional doubleheader at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, about a 45-minute drive from Toronto, August 14-16.
The tour will also make its first visit to Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway for a doubleheader July 10-12. The schedule is rounded out by races at Autodrome St-Eustache, just north of Montreal, June 26-29, and Nova Scotia’s Atlantic Motorsport Park August 1-2.
“This is the busiest schedule we’ve had for the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship since 2011,” said Colin Fraser of Professional Motorsports Productions, which runs the series. “The addition of a doubleheader in Edmonton allows us to cover a greater area of the country and should bring some of the western Canadian talent into the mix for a national title, while Calabogie is a dynamic and exciting circuit.”
The season kicks off June 12-14 at the 5.05km (3.05-mile) Calabogie MotorSport Park, situated about an hour’s drive from the nation’s capital. The track in Calabogie, Ont. was part of the Canadian tour in 2008 and 2009, when it was also the season opener.
From there the tour heads to St-Eustache, Que. June 26-29 and the tight and technical 1.93km (1.2-mile), 10-turn Autodrome St-Eustache, which is making its fifth straight appearance on the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship schedule and 19th overall.
The doubleheader on Castrol Raceway’s 2.7km (1.62-mile) road course is slated two weeks after St-Eustache, July 10-12. The Edmonton track held its first season of regional road racing activity in 2014, with events run by the thriving Edmonton Motorcycle Roadracing Association.
After their trip west the national competitors will make their way back east to Atlantic Motorsport Park, near Halifax, for a round August 1-2 on the testing 2.56km (1.6-mile) track, which has recently undergone renovations. This will be the 17th consecutive year the Canadian series has visited the Shubenacadie, N.S. circuit.
The campaign wraps up at the legendary Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ont. August 14-16. The 3.9km (2.459-mile) track has hosted the Mopar CSBK series for 17 straight years and has staged the season finale three of the past four seasons.
“St-Eustache, AMP and CTMP have established themselves as traditional venues for the Mopar CSBK tour,” added Fraser. “These races have become a standard part of the summer for Canadian race fans, and we expect Calabogie MotorSport Park and Castrol Raceway to develop the same loyalty among enthusiasts.”
The 2015 season will mark the second year in a three-year agreement with Dunlop, through its distributor Pro 6 Cycle, to supply spec tires for all classes of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship. Dunlop will introduce the all-new Sportmax GP-A Pro DOT tire to the Sport Bike classes in the coming campaign.
An updated rule book will be online in the near future. No major changes are expected, but the series is looking into a possible increase in maximum horsepower, as measured on the official series Dynojet dyno, for the Superbike class due to the arrival of new O.E. models.
Jodi Christie of Keene, Ont. will enter the 2015 Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship wearing the number one plate after wresting the title from Jordan Szoke last summer.
